About us
Dementia Friendly Billings is a collaborative effort.
Dementia Friendly Billings works to raise dementia awareness and develop respect and inclusion for persons with dementia, their care partners, and their families. Our presentations are designed to raise understanding of dementia, define dementia, educate about warning signs, and share tips on compassionate communication.
Our partners include Big Sky Senior Services, The Alzheimer’s Association, Adult Resource Alliance, Riverstone Health, SCL Health, Highgate Senior Living, Billings Clinic, and community volunteers.
Dementia is a general term for a loss of memory and other thinking abilities that is serious enough to interfere with activities of daily life.
To build understanding, respect, and inclusion for persons with dementia, their care partners and families.
To help organizations learn practices for healthy interactions and support people with dementia to have a higher quality of life.
To support people with dementia, their care partners and families from very early stages through disease progression.
Why become Dementia Friendly?
Age is the greatest risk factor for Dementia
The greatest known risk factor for Alzheimer’s is increasing age, but Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of aging.
By 2030, Montana is projected to have the 5th highest population of elders in the nation.
1 in 10 individuals over the age of 65, 1 in 3 over the age of 85 are living with Alzheimer’s disease.
5.8 million individuals are living with Alzheimer’s disease in the U.S. including 22,000 in Montana, and over 4,000 in Billings.
